Nothing special happening

As I told you in this post, I was a bit busy these last weeks so that explain the lack of posting. Sorry about that.

Last week, I took my first lesson with my horse. I've always been a "western" girl but now I wanted to try something new so a friend of mine is giving me some classic lessons. My horse has been on a perpetual break for the last 4-5 years, living his lazy horse life in the field and going out from time to time for a short trail. But now it's serious business my friends! We've worked every 2 days this week and I'm sure he hasn't trotted that much in the last year that he did this week. But that's OK because he really needs to lose a couple hundred of pounds. Sounds a lot? Not for a horse. He should lose at least 150 pounds to reach his healthy weight. This is part of why I'm taking lessons. He's got a leg injury 6 years ago and from time to time he will start to limp for no apparent reason. So losing weight will help him. The other reason I'm taking these lessons is because as much as I love going on the trail with him, I would love to have something else to do with him. And maybe working will also help him to focus on something else than little stressful things like butterflies and moving leaves when we ride outside. He's so nervous that sometimes it's dangerous for both of us. Working will help him to focus but it will also reinforce the confidence he has in me. Well at least I hope so!

Last night while we were walking the dogs, Rufio started to play and run after something that I supposed was a grass-snake or a toad. But when I went to look at who he was bothering, I found a nest with 4 little baby birds in it. The nest was built on the floor which in my opinion was not a good idea, miss mommy bird. They looked OK even if they weren't moving but I saw them inhaling so we just let them there without touching them while the mommy bird was shouting at us and we make sure that the dogs don't go back to them. But I was still worried that Rufio has hit them with his big paw and hurt them so this morning I went back to make sure they were OK and all I found was an empty nest and a cat pee smell...I really wish that nothing bad happened to them. They were full of feathers so maybe they just went away. I'll go back tonight to see if they're back and I will cross my fingers until then. We're not lucky with the birds lately. It's sad because I love them actually.

Have a great weekend!

The gardening adventures

SO, we finally finished digging the garden emplacement but we realised, last weekend, that it would cost over 200$ to get enough soil to fill it. Not that we don't have 200$ but we had other plans for this money. So we decided that the garden will wait until next summer. The thing is, I had some veggies already started so I had to plant them. I bought a couple bags of soil and plant them into some plastic bins we had laying around. At the moment, it seems to be ok but we'll see later on if it's working.

Of course, it's not always easy to work when you have this little clown running around you...

We were lucky enough to have some great temperature during the long weekend so I did a couple of horse rides and we had some good time outside.

Back to work tomorrow!

About squash, geese and hair....

I'm working on a new contract right now so I'm a bit busy. Which means it's possible that I blog a little less for about 2 months. But in only 3 days I've already found some really interesting stuff (I'm an archivist, I work with old papers, photos and stuff like that). I found my grand-father's name in the minutes of the Board  of directors of an old credit union. So now I know that he was a member of the board of directors of his job's credit union for about 20 years. And when I told my dad about it, he also told me that granpa was implied in a lot of other things like politics, church and such and that he was also on the board of directors of the credit union in his area. Since I was pretty young when he died, I was happy to learn more about him.

Last weekend, I cut my son's hair. They were way too long. I like long hair but he doesn't take care about it so he always looks like he just got out of bed. So I cut them. He didn't know they would be THAT short. But he liked it a lot after all. And I think he looks more mature, I really like it!

Yesterday I went for a ride with my horse and there was a bunch of geese in the field. You can't quite see it in the picture but they were really close to us. There's a small lake on the left (not shown in picture) so I guess that it's the perfect place for them.

Aaaaand those squash have showed their little nose this morning. I'm amazed by how fast it was. Yesterday, they were not there!!!

Day-to-day

Yesterday, I have added an app to my Iphone which gives me 1 thing to do each day. The thing I have to do today is to drink a large glass of water before each meal. I already had my breakfast when it popped up this morning so I will skip this one and do it for the other 2.

Also, I have added a sponsor section on my site but I know I'm still a tiny tiny tiny blog so I'm only offering ad swap for the moment. But please, pay my sponsors a little visit and feel free (of course!) to add my button to your site if you want to help me grow.

I finally figured out how to put a signature on my blog posts without having to add it each time too. So now you will be granted with it all the time. Took me a while you might say? Why yes, I'm fairly new to all this HTML stuff so I'm still trying to figure out a lot of things.

We didn't get the chance to finish the garden yet since IT WONT STOP RAINING! So whenever it stops for a couple of hours, I go for a horse ride or else he will be a mess for the rest of the summer. Since he's living outside 24/7, I can't really ride him when it rains. It's not comfortable neither for him or me when he's all wet. I'm also really tired of the rain mainly because since we have a small river now, we have to bath the dogs 2 to 3 times a day if we don't want them to put dirt all over the place. And they smell like swamp, which is not my favorite perfume you know...

I'm leaving tomorrow for Montebello for the Quebec Archivists Association Congress. I'll be back home on friday. I was impatient to go but yesterday I saw the reviews of the hotel I will stay to.....not good. I really hope that it will be better than what it says.

Now some more Kevin Russ love because he's awesome! You can also check his Instagram.

Have a nice day folks! What are your plans for the rest of the week?

A great weekend...

As I already told you, I was alone this weekend, but I didn't work on my garden as I was supposed though...It was a wonderful weekend anyway. The temperature was perfect so I spend almost all of my time outside.

Saturday, after I finished my working at the barn, I did a little nap with my fat baby.

After that we went for a little ride that finally lasted about an hour and a half. Dyvel was pretty calm and everything went well.

I was so tired after this long day outside that I went to bed early. Sunday morning, the dogs woke me up at 8h30. I did myself some nom nom crepes with strawberries, raspberries and maple syrup. And of course, a good coffee. It was delicious and such a good way to start the day.

After that and a little time browsing my favorite blogs, I went for a long walk with my dogs in the forest. Two horses went past us so I decided to cut directly in the woods instead of following them on the road because Rufio is not nice to horses and I had no leash with me.

A couple of minutes later, while we were in the middle of nowhere, I stood upon such a beauty. There, sitting all alone, was a flowering tree. It's the only one I ever saw in those woods since we bought the house four years ago. I was really happy that I found him.

We then got on my favorite trail. I love it because it's all covered in moss and pine needles. When it's really hot in the summer, it's still very comfortable on this trail.

Later, I saw a trail that I've never seen before so I went to see it and discovered a small pond along with lots of deer tracks. Of course, the dogs went straight into the water...

After that we got back on the right trail, I stopped to watch something or take a picture, I don't remember, but I looked up for the dogs, Rufio had disappeared. He's doing that quite often so I just called him and waited...and called him more, and more, and he was not coming back. I started to look around and called him for a good ten minutes, still nothing. Do I need to tell you how nervous I was? We were far from home, more than he never went and I was afraid that I lost him for real this time. A few minutes later, just as I was about to cry (really!) he finally came back. I've never been so happy to see him ever! Needless to say that I kept an eye on him for the rest of the walk.

I then got to the barn and did a two hour trail with my horse. He was more nervous than yesterday but he still went where I wanted him to. Which is a good thing because it's not always that easy with him. All in all, I was pretty impressed with him this weekend.

And now my boyfriend just got home so I will end this here. I hope you had a great weekend too. Have you done something special?

A horse and a list

hi! I promised you that I would introduce you to my horse, so here we go:

This is Dyvel, the big, fat, grey Dyvel.

And when he's up he looks a bit like this, with me riding him.

This picture was taken around the first week of march. And I haven't ridden him since then until this Monday. He had a problem walking so I let him recover, gave him natural product to help him and got on his back for the first time 2 days ago. Let me tell you something: my horse is not an easy horse.

When I first met him, it took me 2 months to be able to ride him for over 15 minutes without having him trying to kick me off. It took me another 4 months before I was able to ride outside and another month to be able to take him away from the stable. And by "away" I mean where he couldn't see it, which means about 500 ft away, in the woods...After that, he started to trust me a lot more an we did lots of trails during the whole summer. But Dyvel is Dyvel, super nervous, afraid of anything and everything, so it's never easy and relaxing with him. We had some really nice trails but they were not so frequent. Do I need to tell you that getting back on him after over a month was almost a mess? And since I am such a cowboy, like some people like to say, I wanted to go on a trail right away so I rode him outside. It took us over an hour to do less than 1 km, including getting back to the barn. I feel like i'm starting over all the work I've done with him and it discourages me. I still feel that he trust me, he didn't try to kick me off, he was just so nervous that he could have made me fall off if he'd panicked, but that all the desensizitation I've done I will have to do it again. Oh well! I love my horse so I will do it, of course, but it's not easy.

I got a book a few years ago. "The book of my lists" which is a free traduction of the french title, is, as you could easily find out, a book with lists in it. It simply gives you ideas of lists you can do. Since I never got to fill it, I will do it here. And maybe you could do your own and share it with me? I'll start with

the list of the things i would like to discover someday

  • The winning loterie numbers
  • The perfect house
  • The secret of my grand'ma's tapioca
  • A pirate treasure
  • A really important archives that nobody new about (i'm an archivist, so finding THE one is my dream)

What about you?
